‘It’s electric!’

About 20 or 30 minutes ago the electricity in my home flickered (with some scary sounding clicks and sirens) then went out. First thing I did was look out of the window to see if I could determine whether the entire neighborhood was affected. It was too light to tell so I opened the door; there was no power truck sitting out front so that was a good indication that it wasn’t ’cause of a past due bill. (No, seriously, I knew that wasn’t it.) Some neighbors across the street yelled to another neighbor to see if they had lights, they didn’t.

I sat on the couch trying not to be irritated by the sudden loss of electricity. I wasn’t going to think about the laundry, the writing or anything else that involved power and I was going to sit near the window and read magazines. After about five minutes I put the magazine down and gazed out of the window. I was bored. The word “bored” is actually forbidden in my house because there is always so much to do or that can be done. But given my exhausted state, the things I wanted to do were inaccessible.

No online shopping (Makeup.com has free shipping on orders of $60 or more ’til the end of the year), no television watching and no unnecessary gabbing on the phone. As soon as I decided to simply relax, guess what happened? The electricity came back on. I guess I don’t need to tell you the first thing I did.
