Summer to-do list

In just a couple of weeks my two middle children will be out of school for summer vacation. To me that’s good and bad news. I want to sign them up for a summer program and make sure they have something fun to do, but money is a little tight. If I’m able to I plan on putting my son in a boys-only camp that focuses on mentoring, sports, education and personal success. My middle daughter will probably go to in-home daycare with the youngest where they’ll go on field trips to the movies, park, pool, amusement parks and lots of other places. The provider also does a summer curriculum to ensure that the children don’t lose what they learned the year prior. My oldest daughter, who will be a sophomore in college next year, plans on taking a couple of classes at the local community college.

I was thinking about what I will do if my plans fall through. The children have to be involved in something because even though I work from home I still need uninterrupted time. If they stay home I could get a subscription to Highlights magazine – there’s a Highlights coupon for 42 percent off the newsstand price. For active times we could get some tennis rackets from Sports Authority and play as a family or bikes from Bob’s Bicycles. The choices are endless.

What plans do you have for your children/family this summer?
