‘Mommy, my tummy hurts!’

How many times have you heard that? It’s one of those phrases/things your children say that you dread. It’s not that you don’t want to take care of them; it’s just that there’s isn’t normally much you can do to ease a tummy ache. Of course there’s the standard bland diet of toast, applesauce and tea or electrolite beverage. Sometimes even some warm soup will help. But it’s often the comforts that mommies know how to give that make the biggest difference.

When my children aren’t feeling well there are some things that I always do:

  • They get a cozy blanket and pillow to lay in their bed or lounge with on the couch as they watch television. There’s a Select Bedding deal of 30 percent off plus free shipping.
  • I put a cool compress on their foreheads and dab their necks and temples with it. This is especially helpful when they have a headache and are feverish.
  • Placing my cool hands on their tummies, arms and foreheads soothes them as well. It’s funny ’cause most of the time they would squirm or laugh when I touch them with my cold hands, but when they aren’t feeling well it’s a welcome feeling.
  • And I, of course, ensure they have the medications they need. Whether it’s something over the counter or prescribed.

As parents we can’t always make the “feel yuckies” go right away, but we can make our children comfortable while they get over them.
