Saving on auto upkeep

The other day while my teenager was driving my van it overheated on her and shut down. Luckily she wasn’t on the highway and was able to pull into the closest car place to take care of it – to the tune of about $79 – and got a coupon book to boot. I’ll definitely be taking advantage of the coupons in that book to maximize on my savings, but it got me to thinking that there’s always something that needs to be taken care of when you have a vehicle. The regular maintenance helps keep the vehicle in top running order and to hopefully avoid spending a great deal of money, but it’s keeping that up that can be the challenge especially when money is tight.

It got me to thinking – not for the first time – how I can save money on vehicle maintenance and upkeep by being prepared. I can park my car under a carport (since my garage was turned into my home office), which will reduce the contact the elements have with the paint. So that’s an exterior savings. Carports USA has a super sale going on until December that can help with that.

What I realized is that regardless of how many filters and whatnot I have stocked up, taking my vehicle in for regular maitenance is the surefire way to save on auto upkeep. Or, worse case scenario, I can get a free price quote from Autos.com. ;-)
