Wade in the water
The weather lately has been hotter than ever before. Today, the heat index reached about 106 degrees, which can cause some individuals – especially the elderly and the young – to have serious reactions to the heat. Besides staying inside until it’s cooler outside and wearing sunscreen, one of the most important things to do to survive hot weather is to stay hydrated.
Although most fruits and vegetables provide some hydration, a lot of people don’t eat enough for it to make a difference. And only drinking juices, sodas or coffee is not going to do it either even though it does contribute to the overall liquid intake. A word of caution: beverages like caffeinated coffee, teas and soda can actually make one feel even more dehydrated. The best fluid to intake is good old fashioned water.
For me, water is my drink of choice (although I do indulge quite often with coffee) and when we have bottled water I drink about six bottles per day. It’s really the only thing that quenches my thirst. If we don’t have bottled water I noticed that I don’t drink water as much. I’ve been thinking about the expense of the bottled water and the hassle of recycling all of those bottles, and I’m interesting in getting a hot/cold water cooler with water delivery.
Right now there’s a Water.com deal and new customers can get 3 or 5-gallon bottles plus a case of .5 liter single serving bottles with free delivery when you buy two 3 or 5-gallon bottles and sign up for one year of delivery service with cooler rental. I’ll have to crunch the numbers to see what’s the most cost effective for me and my family from the options they offer, but it’s good to know I can stay out of the heat and have someone deliver water straight to my door.
