What are you eating for Thanksgiving?

Every year, about a month before Thanksgiving Day, my oldest daughter and I start planning the Thanksgiving meal. She’s 19 now and she’s been preparing the meal herself since she was about 15 or 16 years old. About five years ago she asked to prepare the entire meal herself and I was more than happy to oblige and be her assistant. (I’m sure it helped her case that I was eight months pregnant.) She did a fabulous job that first time and she continues to rock and roll in the kitchen.

This year, since she’s away at college, is the first year she began planning the meal on her own without any input from me. She called to ask her standard question, “Anything new or specific you want this year?” Sometimes I have a short list for her and she gives me my “assignments,” but for the most part we have a fairly traditional meal: turkey, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and rolls. A tradition in our family is to have spinach pie, which is a side dish that my mom used to make when I was growing up. I’ve modified the recipe and it’s something my children love as well.

I was thinking that maybe this year we should do something a little different and order our desserts from Cushman’s. They have a pumpkin cheesecake that looks and sounds divine as well as free shipping on Thanksgiving orders of $50 or more. But I have to hurry before time runs out to get it by Thanksgiving. The Cushman’s deal, however, ends November 30th.
