All grown up during the holidays
For the second time in 19 years my oldest daughter Amber and I will not be together for Christmas. She has decided to go to Texas for the holidays in the hopes of being there when her older sister has a baby. Although I had been forewarned of her impending absence during Christmas, as it approaches I am getting more and more disappointed that she won’t be around. The fact is just about every tradition that I’ve established has been because of my baby. Yes, I have other children – ages 7, 5 and 3 – but the 19 year old is the one I’ve experienced the most with those far. And, to add to that, it’ll be the first time I’ve spent time with the younger kids without her as well.
So I’ve been thinking, how do we make this holiday just as special as it normally is when Amber will be out of town? It seems a little silly to celebrate Christmas more than a week before so maybe there’s something we can do to begin a new tradition. You know, one that reflects her growth and the beginning of my empty nest.
Instead of getting too sentimental, I think I’ll continue with a tradition that’s already established and make it extra special for this year. Christmas Central has a set of six small ornaments that are jeweled photo frames and it will be cute to include a picture of Amber or myself in each one to represent some of the past years together during Christmas.
Not only will it continue in a much-loved tradition; it will add beautiful ornaments to our tree. Check out the Christmas Central deals to get yourself something to brighten up your Christmas too.
