I wanna play

As children get older they aren’t as impressed with little trinkets that break easily or toys that don’t “do” something. You know what I mean? They want products that make noises, perform tricks or cause a lot of activity and laughter. That’s why I don’t understand why some educators are still purchasing cheap toys to give to their students as rewards. A toy that breaks or doesn’t work ends up being so disappointing that’s it not worth the effort of the deed that was done to get it.

That happened to one of my daughters this past week. She earned a prize, but she left it unattended for a few seconds as she went to get her backpack and a classmate dropped the toy – a yo-yo – causing it to break. It was a really cool yo-yo that would travel back up the string on its own. Since I couldn’t fix it I told her I would get her one at a toy store and I’m sure I can find one just as cool, if not cooler, for her to enjoy.

Although we don’t have an FAO Schwarz nearby I couldn’t resist searching the site of the famous toy store to see what goodies they have. The site is filled with toys for kids of all ages and the FAO Schwarz deals abound. I think I’ll start my Christmas shopping while I look for something for me to play with. Hey, I told you they have something for all ages.
